Used motorcycle buying checklist

A practical used motorcycle buying checklist: seller details, VIN consistency, inspection scope, photos, purchase decision and Florida transport planning.

Start with the listing

Compare the advertised year, make, model, mileage, asking price and location. Ask for current photographs of both sides, the front and rear, odometer and visible damage. Note modifications and any gaps in the description before discussing the next step.

Keep the VIN and paperwork consistent

Request the VIN and compare it with the motorcycle and available documents. The VIN decoder on our request form retrieves manufacturer specifications when available; it does not establish ownership, title status, theft history, accident history or absence of liens. Inconsistencies need review before a purchase proceeds.

Ask what can actually be inspected

Seller permission and access affect an inspection. Confirm whether the bike can be started cold, which components are accessible and whether any operational checks or test ride are permitted and safe. A pre-purchase inspection records observations and limitations; it does not guarantee against hidden or future defects.

Review the report before deciding

Read the photographs, findings and areas marked not inspected. Ask follow-up questions about concerns and any work you want assessed. A positive inspection observation is not an instruction to buy; the purchase decision remains yours.

Separate the motorcycle price from the service costs

Keep the seller’s price, inspection charge, travel costs and transport quote separate when comparing the total. For our PPI + transport package, the agreed inspection charge covers the inspection even if you choose not to buy. Delivery requires a separate approval.

Confirm the handoff

Before any scheduled pickup, establish the seller contact, access, release requirements, keys, approved route and delivery contact. Transport is within Florida only and is not scheduled automatically after an inspection.
